Newhaven Town Council launch Poppy Trail…

The Sussex Sign Company had the privilege of working with Jenny Flood, Project Officer, from the Newhaven Town Council, on a heritage project that took months of planning.

The interpretation panels are around the town as part of the Council’s Heritage Lottery funded project ‘Newhaven’s First World War’. During the First World War, Newhaven became one of the major supply ports to the Western Front. The number of soldiers at the Garrison increased to over 4,000, the Boys’ School (Hillcrest Centre) was converted into a Military Hospital and a Seaplane Station was built on the beach between the East Pier and Tide Mills.

The lecterns are Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) Mounted Duralite weatherproof and vandal resistant full colour digital panel size A1. These were fitted at a 45degree angle to a double legged zinc plated mild steel lecturn powder coated to a RAL colour and they were fitted all across the Newhaven Poppy Trail, a total of six signs were fitted in total.

Lecterns are perhaps the most used structures for interpretive panels. The Sussex Sign Company manufacture interpretive lecterns in many different materials such as Stainless Steel, Galvanized Steel and Powder coated mild steel.

Many of these are made to specific designs and incorporate routing and sandblasting.

As well as stainless steel and galvanized steel we supply powder coated steel and aluminium in our metal range. We manufacture many different designs as well as our standard classic shape.

The Sussex Sign Company can work with you or your design team right across East and West Sussex including Heathfield, Crowbourough and Uckfield. Call us today on 01273 417057

Supporting South East Dance exhibition

As part of our mission to help support the arts, we are delighted to have been involved with an exhibition held at the Onca Gallery, Brighton.

The Sussex Sign Company designed, in collaboration with South East Dance, the window graphics and the information displays for ‘Hawkers Pick Over Fruit Here’. Working alongside artists Becky Edmunds (Straybird), and Zoe Manders, we are delighted with the completed designs. The Exhibition includes photography and film and ran for one week. The Circus Street Market Hall is due to be demolished this year, and with it disappears ways of working that have sustained several generations of Brighton-based families. straybird artists – Becky Edmunds and Lucy Cash – and photographer Zoe Manders invited members of these families – grandfathers, fathers and sons – who worked at the Market, to attempt to describe what the site looked like, sounded like and felt like at the height of its working life. The resulting exhibition uncovers the patterns and rhythms of this way of life and celebrates the communities that once inhabited the space as we look towards its future use as a space for dance. Traders cam from all over the home counties, including London and Croydon. As part of Brighton’s Cine-City Festival 2015, ONCA will be hosting an installation of still and moving images: Hawkers Pick Over Fruit Here. Commissioned by South East Dance. Supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England. Based on an original concept by Lauren Proto and Zoe Manders. New Restaurant Signage

Our Design Department Created This Amazing Corporate Identity For The Three Little Birds

A brand new restaurant based in Hove, East Sussex came to us for a fresh approach for their new business venture. The Sussex Sign Company runs its’ own Design Department and we are always on the look out for new start up companies that want to utilise the full extent of our services. This was a fun exciting project that we developed from an initial free consultation, (that we always offer to prospective clients), to work out what kind of direction to take the identity in. The Corporate Identity was led by the strong name and the clients’ intention to illustrate the title, Three Little Birds. We then developed the signage around the theme. The handmade wooden fascia and projection sign were produced in our workshop by one of our skillful team members. The backing of the fascia was constructed of marine ply with tongue and groove pine on the face and angled capping. We then applied two coats of clear Sadolin wood preserver, followed by three coats of yacht varnish. The letter forms were made from 316 grade stainless steel and applied to the surface on raised brass locators along with the powder coated stainless steel birds. The image shows the projection sign – the result looks fantastic! Call us today on 01273 417057 or email us.
